My first scarf...

... that really demonstrates what I'm going for.
This silk scarf is made from two pieces vintage kimono fabric. The two textiles are different styles, but the similar color hues and shades complement each other. Because the loop is long, It can be worn several ways.
I really found the appeal of the infinity scarf style with this scarf. It's easy to wear, because it doesn't get in the way of working with my hands or leaning over. And the loop around my neck keeps me warm, and I'm always cold.

Death wears a scarf...

Happy 16th Death Day, Edward Gorey.

Raise your hand if you're like me...

I am 45 years old, middle class wife, mother, and full-time worker. On a whim I acquired more beautiful fabric than I can afford and have decided to do some crafty-crafty on Etsy to see if I can re-coup my money. I don't want to make a mint, or end up in those news articles, "She made 50 gazillion dollars on Etsy in three days!" I just want to put some beautiful things into the world. Things that people might look at and say, "Hey, what a beautiful scarf" or "Where did you get that cool headband?"
My best friend is shaking her head in dismay and laughing at me, because I have told her a thousand times, "I would never want to have a small business!" My other best friend is my cohort who is abetting me with her superior craft skills. My husband is wise and is supportive and doesn't ask too many questions.

I'm pretty lucky. Really lucky, if naive and anxious at the same time!

My name is Juliet.

Digging in/Leaning in/In over my head

Today I had the idea of trying to use this blog to document my scarf business.

I also thought of "naming" the scarves.

And starting a twitter feed. The twitter feed might be good to keep track of listings, fabric purchases, etc.

Welcome to JulietPenguin

I inadvertently started a scarf business and this is the first posting on my site.

Please stay tuned.
